Former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston has issued a strong warning to Ghanaian coaches, urging them to invest in continuous education or risk being overtaken by the demands of modern football.
Speaking on the evolution of the sport, Kingston stressed that tactical knowledge, technology and modern training methods are advancing rapidly, and coaches must keep up.
“The modern game will leave my colleague coaches behind if they don’t educate themselves,” he said.
Kingston, who has transitioned into coaching and recently worked with Ghana’s youth national teams, believes that passion alone is no longer enough to succeed at the highest level. He emphasised the need for formal training, exposure to global best practices and openness to new ideas.
“Football has changed,” he noted. “If we want to compete internationally, our coaches must evolve too.”
His comments reflect a wider conversation in Ghanaian football about coaching standards, development pathways and the importance of staying modern and innovative.
With Ghana aiming to build stronger national teams and more competitive clubs, Kingston’s message serves as both a warning and a call to action.
