Lack of lavatory affecting teaching and learning at Allowuley School

The absence of lavatory at the Allowuley D/A Basic School near Tikobo Number One in the Western Region is affecting teaching and learning at the school.

Staff and pupils of the school periodically have to abandon classes for hours to attend to nature’s call at their respective homes some distance away from the school.

Mr Eric Kaku, Headteacher of the school in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the Junior High School block was completed by the District Assembly in June last year, and unheeded appeals were made to the authorities to make provision for a lavatory when they (school authorities) realised it was not in the plans of the building.

He said during the inauguration of the school block they appealed again and the Regional Minister, Mr Paul Aidoo, asked the Jomoro District Chief Executive, Mr Sylvester Daddieh to consider their request but till now nothing has been done despite several efforts by the chiefs and his elders of the town.

The Headteacher expressed grave concern over a number of school blocks being put up by the Assembly across the district in recent times without lavatories saying that the situation could create health hazards for the people.

Mr Angelo Turkson, Jomoro District Assembly Works Engineer, said estimates for the lavatory at Allowuley, were ready but lack of funding had prevented its take-off.
