Labourer sentenced for indecent assault

Accra, Sept. 9, GNA – An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Monday sentenced a 32-year-old labourer to 10 years’ imprisonment for inserting his fingers into the sexual organ of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl.

The labourer, Nana Kwaku, pleaded guilty to indecent assault. Police Inspector Alex Yartey Tawiah told the tribunal, chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson Yeboah, that the accused lives in the same house with the girl and her parents at Mandela in Accra.

Inspector Tawiah said at about 1430 hours on August 28, the mother of the girl went to church and left her in the care of one Abena Konadu. He said the accused called the girl into his room and locked it without the knowledge of Ms Konadu.

When it was time to feed her, she could not find the young girl until later when Kwaku released the girl from his room. The complainant returned from church and detected that the victim was sick and weak.

When she was questioned, the victim told her mother that Kwaku inserted his fingers into her vagina.

Inspector Tawiah said Kwaku was arrested and he admitted in his statement that he indecently assaulted the girl.
