Agona Swedru, June 25, GNA – An Agona Swedru Circuit Court has convicted a labourer to three years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing plastic chairs belonging to the Swedru Area Church of Pentecost Prayer Centre at Nkubem, a suburb of Agona Swedru. Sulemana Abdulai alias Concord, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.
The Prosecution told the court presided over by Mr Charles Adjei Wilson that the complainant was a watchman at the Prayer Centre. He said there had been rampant stealing of Plastic chairs since the establishment of the Centre was established some years ago. The prosecution told the court that 109 plastic chairs had been stolen from the Centre where the watchman had been on guard duties. On April 4, 2005, at about mid-day the accused was seen offering chairs for sale in the vicinity and watchman confronted him but in an attempt to arrest him the accused managed to bolt. The prosecution said on June 17, 2005 the accused was arrested at his hideout and sent to the Police Station and upon interrogation admitted the offence. The accused was convicted on his own plea and was sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour. “If you fear God one would not go and steal at the Church and people must learn to respect the things of God,” Mr Wilson said.
