Labourer jailed for stealing mobile phones and money

Takoradi, May 03, GNA – A Takoradi Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced Samuel Enchill, a 20-year-old labourer, to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing.

He pleaded guilty.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alhasan Sabaliko, told the court that on April 29, Nana Tawiah and some relations attended a funeral in Takoradi and lodged in a hotel at the Chapel Hill area. Nana Tawiah and some friends were relaxing on the balcony of the hotel when the accused jumped over the wall and landed in the hotel. He cut the mosquito and security nets of the window of Nana Tawiah’s room and took away three mobile phones and 2.7 million cedis. He said the complainant detected the theft and reported the incident to the Police.

The accused was arrested while on a spending spree and the phones were retrieved but the chips in the phones had been destroyed. An amount of 107,000 cedis, being the remainder of the stolen cash, were also found on him.
