Labourer jailed for stealing a bicycle

Sekondi Feb.03, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Thursday sentenced Kwabena Owusu, a labourer resident at Asakae near Takoradi, to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a bicycle. The accused pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Adu Kyeremeh, said in the afternoon of January 30, this year, the accused stole the bicycle from the veranda of one Francis Sey at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Flats at Anaji.

He said in the evening of the same day, the accused offered the bicycle for sale at 200,000 cedis to Daniel Tagoe, the complainant who deals in bicycles at Amanful and resides at East Tanokrom. Police Sergeant Kyeremeh said Tagoe asked for reduction in the price and the accused fixed the price at 50,000 cedis. He said with such a ridiculous reduction, Tagoe became suspicious that the bicycle was stolen and asked the accused to produce documents covering it.

Police Sergeant Kyeremeh said the accused failed to produce the documents and Tagoe raised the alarm. He said the accused was arrested and taken to the Takoradi Central Police Station where he was charged with the offence after investigations.
