Labourer jailed five years for possessing Indian hemp

A Fiapre Circuit court has sentence a 30-year-old labourer, Kadiri Osman, to five years imprisonment for possessing narcotic drugs.

Kadiri pleaded guilty and was sentence on his own plea by the court presided over by Mr. Benjamin Osei Yaw.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mawunyo Nanegbe told the court that complainants in the case were police personnel from the Brong Ahafo Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) in Sunyani.

He said on August 2, the complainants were on duty at a traffic light near Nana Bosoma Wednesday market and saw the convict holding a black polythene bag and when a search was conducted on him they found 35 rolls of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The prosecutor said when questioned the convict told the police that he had the dried leaves from Kotokrom in Sunyani for his personal use.
