Labourer jailed 14 years for theft

A 26-year-old labourer, Bless Davodzi, who stole twenty boards valued at GHC280 belonging to Only Prayer Can Save Furniture Works has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by a Tarkwa circuit court.

He pleaded guilty.

Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that the complainant, Eric Fosu, is the Director of the Furniture Works, and the accused is a resident at Lay-out, a suburb of Tarkwa.

He said on February 8, this year, around 0545 hours, the complainant received a phone call that a man was carrying boards from his workshop, at Jerusalem Junction, to the roadside in front of the Louis gas filing station.

Chief Insp. Paddy said that when the complainant went to the spot, he realised that some boards were parked at the bus stop in front of the Louis gas filing station.

The prosecution said the complainant laid ambush and at about 0630 hours, he spotted the convict loading the boards into a vehicle and he was arrested.

Chief Insp. Paddy said when Davodzi was interrogated about how he got the boards, he claimed a man whose whereabouts he did not know, asked him to come for the boards.
