Laborer jailed 12 years for possessing 9 grams of Cannabis

A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a labourer caught with 9.49 grams of cannabis to 12 years imprisonment.

Amidu Seidu pleaded not guilty to the crime.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah-Appenteng, told the court presided over by Justice William Boampong that, the convict was arrested on March 24, last year, at about 0530 hours.

Members of the neighborhood watch committee at Dompoase, a suburb of Kumasi, saw him about to defecate at a public cemetery and apprehended him.

Amidu was escorted to the chief’s palace where the cannabis was found concealed in his pocket.

He was therefore handed over to the police.

During interrogation, he mentioned one Kofi at Atonsu as his supplier but could not lead the police to the said source.*
