About 400 persons including market women from the La Market have received free National Health Insurance cards procured for them by the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon.
The national health insurance cards will enable beneficiaries to access medical care in all public institutions in the country. They will however be required to renew them when they expire. This is the third time the MP has distributed free NHIS cards to residents in the constituency.
Prior to the distribution of the cards on Friday at La, Nii Amasah Namoale, the Member of Parliament and the President of the Greater Accra Market Women Association, Mrs Mercy Needjan, took time to educate the residents about the importance of the ongoing biometric voter registration exercise.
They urged the residents, especially those yet to register to do so not only in the interest of the state, but more so for their own benefit since the voter ID card serves many purposes.
Nii Namoale assured the market women that government’s decision to provide the people of La with a multi-storey supermarket had not been abandoned.
“La is moving forward, and we will build a market that is befitting our status. The initial proposal of erecting sheds does not befit us. We want a market that will have facilities like clinic, police station, fire service, and a conference hall,” the MP said.
“La now has a paramountcy and with our municipal status, we need to ensure that our developments are tailored to suit our needs and aspirations so that our peoples’ living standards will improve,” he added.
Mrs Needjan urged the market women not to be deceived by people who lacked knowledge on the registration process and its importance because it would serve them many benefits.
She advised them against double or multiple registration and said the new system has all the needed security checks to expose any anyone who attempted to cheat or register more than once.**
