Kwesimintsim Hospital faces water shortage

Kwesimintsim (W/R), April 15, GNA – Dr. Isaac A. Darko, Principal Medical Officer In-Charge of the Kwesiminstim Hospital near Takoradi has complained about the irregular flow of water to the hospital, describing the situations as “a major problem confronting the hospital”. He said the situation has affected efficient health service delivery, and added that, even though there are few water reservoirs at the hospital, they are inadequate and cannot meet the demand for water at the hospital.

Dr. Darko who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kwesiminstim on Thursday said the water situation, if not checked, could worsen the plight of the sick and health personnel at the hospital and therefore, appealed to stakeholders to come to the aid of the hospital. He also complained about the habit of some residents in the area who use the hospital compound as paths to disrupt normal work of staff. Dr. Darko said though there is an on-going fencing of the entire hospital, certain individuals have been cutting through the wire mesh, to enable them to use the hospital as shortcuts to their homes and to town.

He said the hospital is currently facing staffing problems and this had compelled the few personnel sometimes do extra work, to the detriment of their health.
