Kwanwoma (Ash), Sept 6, GNA – The Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Health Management Team (DHMT) has inaugurated the Kwanwoma zone of Community-Based Health Planning Services (CHPS) programme. This is where Community Health Officers (CHO) resides to offer health care services to the community as well as educating and interacting with the people on issues that may affect their lives and the community as a whole.
Communities under the Kwanwoma zone of the programme are Odumase-Afrancho, Kyekyewere, Ampabame, Ampeyoo and New Adwampong. Launching the programme at Kwanwoma, Dr. Kobina Bainson, Chief of Party of the CHPS Technical Assistant Project, commended the DHMT for the giant strides made in terms of quality health care delivery and urged them to keep the good work up.
He indicated that 30 districts in the country with 60 zones were being equipped with clinical equipment, bicycles, motorbikes and other forms of assistants to facilitate their operations in the communities and thanked the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for funding the project.
Dr. Bainson appealed to the chiefs and people to lent their support to the DHMY, CHOs and the Community-Based Surveillance volunteers to enable them to help improve upon quality health care delivery in the communities.
Dr Kofi Asare, Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, in an address read on his behalf, stated that three districts in the regions, Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma, Amansie West and the Ahafo-Ano North, were benefiting from the project which was on the pilot scheme and hoped it would be extended to other districts soon.
He called on health personnel to create good relationship with their clientele to enable them interact freely with them at all times and also urged the communities to take good care of health facilities and its equipment to enable them active its goal of providing and improving the health care needs of the people.
Dr. (Mrs) Agatha Akua Bonney, the District Director of Health Services, on her part said CHPS aimed at bringing health care delivery to the doorsteps of the community members, adding that the provision of quality health care delivery was the responsibility of all and called on the community to complement government efforts to protect and help maintain the facilities.
She later presented two bicycles to the Kwanwoma CHPS zone to enhance their movement around the various communities. Nana Kofi Agyei IV, Kwanwomahene, who chaired the function pledged the support of the chiefs and people towards enhancing and sustenance of the programme in the area. 06 Sept. 07
