Kwamikrom gets 205 million cedis HIPC fund for water project

Kwamikrom, Jan. 29, GNA – Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, Volta Regional Minister said on Tuesday that 205 million cedis had been allocated from the HIPC Fund for a water project at Kwamikrom in the Jasikan District. Addressing a mini-durbar during a one-day visit to the area, Mr Owusu-Yeboa said the need for good water supply for the people towards the elimination of water borne diseases was paramount.

The Regional Minister said the Kwamikrom community was expected to use 196 million cedis from the allocation for the project and invest other monies from the fund into a Water Board, which would assume full administration of the project on its completion.

“Education and water occupy priority needs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government”, the Regional Minister said.

On the voters’ registration, Mr Owusu-Yeboa advised all persons who have attained the age of 18 and above to register when the exercise starts in March this year so as to be able to exercise their franchise during the general elections in December.

The Regional Minister warned against what he described as “loose talk”, insults and insinuations against political opponents and advised such people to put a stop to it.

Mr Lawson Afun, Chairman of the Kwamikrom Town Council, appealed to the Minister for the provision of improved toilet facilities and staffing of the health centre built with the support of the Saudi Fund for Development.

Mr Enoch Opoku Antwi, Sub-Regional Coordinator of the Volta North Water Projects under the VORAP/GTZ said the entire water project at Kwamikrom would cost 4 billion cedis.

The GTZ planned to offer training facilities for both technical and administrative staff to enable the Water Board to assume control and ownership of the project on completion.
