The Kwakwaduam Association of the New York Tri State played host to a Team of Research Fellows from Willamette University who were in Ghana to conduct research under the theme “Comparative Analysis of Diasporian interactions between Senegal and Ghana.
The research is being carried out by the Institute for the Interdisciplinary Social Analysis of Complex Global Challenges of the Willamette University Salem, Oregon to compare and contrast the ways in which Diaporians from Ghana and Senegal interact with their respective communities back home. The Team was in Senegal last year.
The lead researcher was Professor Millen, Director, Institute for the Interdisciplinary Social Analysis of Complex Global Challenges. Her two Associates, Kate and Gertrude stayed in Akropong Akwapim Ghana, for a period of two weeks to evaluate the work done by Kwakwaduam Association Inc in its global initiative and assess social interactions.
Commenting on their visit Prof Millen said “We are very grateful to Kwakwaduam for setting up the Akropong homestay and the special two-week visit. We left with very favorable impressions and will be thinking of Akropong well into the future.”
The inclusion of Kwakwaduam Association as one of the research sites is because of the recognition of the extensive involvement of Kwakwaduam in projects back in Ghana. It will be recalled that Kwakwaduam has completed a $24,000 water project for the School for the Blind, donated clothing to the School, purchased talking calculators for the school, was instrumental in the construction of water project for the town, donated a shuttle bus to the clinic in town, donated a sonogram and items to the clinic in Akropong among other things and is in the middle of a proposal to construct a water closet toilet and sanitary system for Akropong in the Akwapim region.
