Kwahu Youth Fires Daily Guide, Citi & Others

“…Says Its Journalists Are Immature, Living a Phony Media House”

The Kwahu Youth Movement in the Diaspora has hit back at media houses that had reported on the alleged “open sex” scandal during this year’s Easter festivity in Kwahu, in the Eastern Region.

In a very harsh language, the youth described journalists who did the story as “immature and so-called ‘educated’ journalists who are living in phony media houses to put such an irresponsible and concocted article in the public domain without fishing out for the facts”.

This was contained in an article written by the president of the youth abroad, Mr. Obrempon Ansong-Dwamena Frederick; captioned “Open Sex in Kwahu – Media idiocy and ignorance” and was published on ghanaweb last Friday, April 20, 2012.

Mr. Obrempong fired that, “a representative of Kwahu Citizens Abroad in Ghana, Mr. Bismark Dwamena, has confirmed that nothing close to what was reported happened in Kwahu and it is unfortunate for some so-called ‘educated’ journalists to put such an irresponsible and concocted article in the public domain without fishing out for the facts”.

Descending very heavily on the journalists, he said “Unquestionably, we do believe that some journalists lack common sense needed to investigate very simple and basic alleged reports; but not to the extent that will course embarrassment to the citizens of Kwahu”

He went on: “In this civilized world, it is unthinkable for a media houses to publish such a shameful act without due diligence in its investigation”

Spewing more anon, Mr. Obrempon reiterated that, “we are not asking for any apologies from such phony media houses but would want to reiterate that such silliness and witlessness on the part of these immature journalists will not be tolerated; ever again”.

Meanwhile when The Herald contacted president of the Kwahu Youth Movement, Mr. Davis Opoku, here in Ghana about the article, he said he had not read the article, but “this should tell that we the youth are not happy about the reportage”.

According to him, he said the youth together with Kwahu Traditional Council are preparing to drag Daily Guide, Citi Fm, Peace Fm and other media houses who have used the story to the National Media Commission (NMC) this week after failing to retract and render unqualified apology as stated in their earlier press statement.

He said although Daily Guide was the first to break the story through its Eastern Regional Correspondent, Thomas Fosu Jnr, other media houses like Citi Fm, Peace Fm, Ok Fm and others should have double-checked before broadcasting it on their airwaves and websites.

He said the youth believed that the story was targeted at tainting the image and the reputation of Kwahu Citizens, adding, “we would not allow some quack journalists with no experience to run down the reputation of such an international event which is participated by Ghanaians and foreigners”.
