Kwahu North Farmers appeal to Volta Lake Transport

Farmers and residents in the Kwahu North District have appealed to the Volta Lake Transport Company (VLTC) to station a pontoon at Ekye-Amanfrom.

They said if the pontoon that plies between Kwahu Adawso and Ekye-Amanfrom is stationed in the town after the days work, it would help to ferry referral patients from the Donkorkrom Presbyterian hospital to other hospitals for treatment.

Quite recently four patients from the Donkorkrom Presbyterian hospital lost their lives during the past two months due to the absence of a pontoon to ferry them to the referral hospitals.

Opanin Kofi Amoah, a resident farmer in Kwahu North District, made the appeal on behalf of the farmers and the people in an interview with the GNA at Nkawkaw.

He said due to the peculiar location of the district with over 200,000 people, the residents depended on the pontoon and other smaller boats to reach other parts of the country.

Opanin Kofi Amoah said since the pontoon was originally meant for the people in the district the most appropriate place to locate it should be within the district for emergency referral cases.

When the VLTC was contacted, an official said the company had its offices at Adawso in the Kwahu South district and could not ensure the security of the pontoon at Ekye-Amanfrom.

He said the Millennium Development Authority was constructing two pontoons for the Afram Plains and when completed, one would be stationed at Ekye-Amanfrom in the Kwahu North District to serve emergency situations. **
