Donkokrom (E/R), May 6, GNA – The Kwahu North (Afram Plains) District Assembly, on Tuesday confirmed Mr Charles Evans Apraku, a 40-year-old educationist, as the District Chief Executive (DCE).
At an emergency meeting held at Donkokrom, 67 out of the 74 assembly members present voted for him representing 79.1 percent while seven members voted against him. Mr Apraku thanked the President and the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him. He appealed to all those who contested the position with him to co-operate and support him to be able to unite the ethnic groups in the district to undertake development projects. Mr Apraku gave the assurance that he would co-operate with all, irrespective of one’s political or ethnic affiliation, to implement government policies and programmes to move the district forward. Addressing the assembly the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, said the government would provide logistics and financial resources including the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) to improve agriculture, food and life stock production in the area. He said the government would provide more tractors to farmers on high purchase basis to enhance mechanized farming in the district to increase food production to make the area the food basket of the country.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said plans were far advanced for the procurement of two additional pontoons to ply between Ekye-Amanfrom to Adawso and Azodeke to Kpando Torkor. The District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Francis Owusu Ansah, said despite the district being one of the most ethnically diverse in the country it continued to enjoy maximum peace that had enabled it to pursue its development agenda. Later, Nana Danso Ababio II, Pitikuhene, was elected the Presiding Member of the assembly.
