Aduamoa-Kwahu (E/R), April 17, GNA – A number of communities in the Kwahu Ridge used the Easter festivities to organize fundraising activities to finance various development projects to improve their living standards.
The communities included Aduamoa, Nkwatia, Abetifi, Obo, Obomeng and Bepong, where the people were either embarking on new projects or completing on-going ones.
The people of Nkwatia are constructing a community centre, an Information Communication and Technology Centre at Abetifi, a water closet toilet facility at Obomeng, a day-care centre at Aduamoa and classroom blocks at some of the communities.
Speaking at the inauguration of the first phase of a 300-milion-cedi classroom block at Aduamoa, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Mr Eugene Atta Agyapong, commended the community and the Presbyterian Church for initiating the project, saying, no country could develop without educated citizenry. He, therefore, charged the various communities to embark on more self-help development projects to supplement government efforts towards the development of the country.
The MP, who assisted the people with roofing sheets, assured them of more support for the completion of the second phase of the project. The Catechist in-charge of the church, Mr John Ampadu, said 150 million cedis was spent on the first phase and commended the Mr Agyapong and the Ghana Cement Works for donating 8 packets of roofing sheets and 100 bags of cement, respectively, towards the first phase of the project.
He appealed to the Kwahu South District Assembly and citizens from the area to help complete the project to accommodate more pupils in view of the implementation of the capitation grant by the government. The Principal of the Abetifi Teacher Training College, Rev. Fredrick Apattey, said Christianity played a significant role in the country’s development, saying, it was the Christian missionaries, who introduced formal education into the country to produce the manpower required for national development.
He, therefore, advised the students to study hard to make effective use of the heavy investments being made by their parents and the government to enable them become useful future adults. April 17, 06
