Kwahu Communities use Easter festivities to commission projects

A number of communities in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region, used the Easter festivities to commission individually and communally initiated projects, including community centres, school buildings, and toilets.

Activities to raise funds for more development projects to enhance the living standards of the people were also organised.

Speaking at the inauguration of a 2.5 billion-cedi community centre at Obo-Kwahu on Sunday, the Eastern Regional Minister, Dr Francis Osafo-Mensah commended the chiefs and people for mobilising resources to undertake the projects.

The Minister said he has released part of his share of the MP’s common fund for the rehabilitation of school buildings, purchase of dual desks, construction of bridges and culverts and public toilets in the area.

Dr Osafo-Mensah said the government has provided a pumping machine to replace the one at Mpraeso to supply pipe borne water to Obomeng, Obo and Twenedurase.

The Minister hinted that a grant of 60 million cedis has been secured from the European Union for the construction of a library and a computer laboratory for the Kwahu Ridge secondary school.

The Regional Minister appealed to Nana Adanse Twum 1, Nkosuohene of Obo to appoint a competent persons to ensure the effective management and maintenance of the facilities.

Dr Osafo-Mensah urged parents and teachers to collaborate efforts to fight indiscipline that has militated against social cohesion and development.

Nana Twum said the projects, which started eight years ago, were financed by Obo-Kwahu citizens at home and abroad and Mr Kwame Asante, an African-American, who has adopted the town as his ancestral home.

He said a hotel would be constructed near the community centre to offer accommodation for guests, who would patronise the centre.

Nana Yeboah Afari Boagyan II, Obohene, commended the people for their contribution to the development of the area.

He urged them to unite and raise funds for more projects to improve the living standard of the people.
