Kwahu Chiefs to offer fallow land to Fulani herdsmen

Acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Council, Nana Aseidu Agyaman, has said that Chiefs in Kwahu are ready to give huge parcels of land in the Afram plains of the Kwahu South District, as ranches for Fulani herdsmen.

Nana Aseidu Agyaman made the declaration on Atinka FM’s Morning Drive programme Monday, March 14.

The chiefs came to this decision as they met at an annual Traditional Council meeting in the Kwahu North District over the weekend.

According to the Acting President, who doubles as Kwahu Adontenhene, “there are some Fulani herdsmen who are very well-mannered and have lived with us for many years.

“Some of them have married our children so we are family members. However, there are some crusty nomadic ones who have taken the law into their own hands and they are the people we need to flush out”.

He said “there is a vast land in Aframs plains which is lying fallow”.

“We are ready to give fallow lands to the good Fulani herdsmen. We have invited the government for talks over this issue.”

He also noted, “the Fulani issue has not been managed well. We want to now put our best foot forward so that in the near future, Ghana can become a net exporter of beef”.

“We should manage what has now become a saga well so that we can co-exist with the Fullanis”.

However, tension is brewing at some towns and villages in Asante Akyem Agogo and its environs between the youth and Fulani herdsmen.

The youth are blaming the Fulanis for the serial killings and rape in the area and are therefore calling on the government to evacuate the Fulanis from the area.
