Kade, April 18, GNA – Mr George Aboagye, the Presiding Member of the Kwaebibirem District Assembly, has decried the “Pull-him-down” attitude of some people in the district and said it could retard its development if not changed.
He said such behaviour had been one of the causes of the frequent change of district chief executives and this had done more harm than good to the district.
Speaking to newsmen at Kade in reaction to the call by one King Sam, describing himself as the spokesman of “Kwaebibirem Youth”, on President J. A. Kufuor not to re-nominate Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye as DCE, Mr Aboagye said the call was “most unfortunate”.
He said taking into consideration the hard work by Mr Yiadom-Boakye and other rare qualities he had exhibited during his tenure of office, he prayed that the President would re-nominate him as his representative in the district.
“I cannot fathom such a gem being missed in the Positive Change Chapter Two boat”, Mr Aboagye said and that “for a clique to want to turn back the hand of the clock of progress with mischievous lies is very bad.”
Mr Aboagye who had been a member of the District Assembly since 1994, was of the opinion that Mr Yiadom-Boakye was, by his assessment, “the best District Chief executive the district had had so far.” “I can attest to his dedication to work, his commitment to the development of the district, his insistence that the right thing is always done and his impartiality in the distribution of development projects.”
Asked about 150 million cedis from the Ministry for Women and Children’s Affairs as part of the Assembly’s share of the HIPC funds that has not been disbursed, Mr Aboagye attributed the delay to the alleged insistence of the MP for Kade, Mr Ofosu Asamoah, that the amount should benefit only women in his constituency since he arranged for it. Mr Aboagye said the ministry had now clarified that it should benefit women of both the Kade and Akwatia constituencies and that the amount would soon be disbursed to women groups through their corresponding banks.
