Kwabre Pupils Learn Trade Instead Of Schooling

Bampenase (Ash), Aug 13, – Most of the school children in Kwabre District prefer to learn the Adinkra, tie and dye making and wood carving to make a living at the expense of formal education. The Kwabre District Education Directorate has, therefore, organised a series of meetings with opinion leaders, chiefs and parents at Ntonso, Wonoo and Ahwiaa to address the problem. Mr John N. Mensah, Assistant Director of Education for Kwabre, said this at the annual open-day of Kofi Adjei Local Authority Primary and JSS at Bampenase yesterday. Most of parents, he said, are shirking their responsibilities thereby forcing the children to fend for themselves; they have to learn a trade to earn money to purchase their own school uniforms and other needs as well as for feeding. Mr Mensah asked parents not to shirk their responsibilities; they must make sure that their children stay in school to complete their education to contribute to the country’s future.
