Kwabre MP assists community with water project

Ablade (Ashanti Region) 23 Nov. ’98

Nana Kwame Asante-Frimpong, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre, has assisted the people of Ablade, near Mamponteng, with a hand-dug well valued at four million cedis to ease the perennial water problem of the community. The well, fitted with hand-pump was financed from the MP’s share of the district assemblies common fund. Handing over the well to the chiefs and people at a short ceremony, Nana Asante-Frimpong told them to take responsibility for its management and maintenance. The MP advised them not to allow chieftaincy disputes to stall the communal spirit and development of the area. Mr Ernest Poku-Fofie, the Kwabre District Chief Executive, in an address read for him, announced that a water sector development plan has been drawn up for the district with inputs from the Bureau of Integrated Rural Development (BIRD) and the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation (GWSC). He said external funding is being sort for the implementation of the plan. Meanwhile, the MP is supporting the rehabilitation of an abandoned Catholic Church building at Mamponteng into a two- classroom block at a cost of 10 million cedis.
