Mamponteng (Ash), March 24, GNA- Mr Johnson Addae-Poku, Headteacher of Atimatim primary “B” School, was elected the new Kwabre District Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) at the second quadrennial delegates conference held at Mamponteng on Monday. He polled 18 votes out of the 42 total votes cast to beat his opponents, Messrs Alexander Boakye-Danquah and Simon Obro Adibo, who had 17 and seven votes respectively.

The post of vice-chairman went to Mr Andrew Boakye-Ansah while Madam Comfort Serwaa Agyemang and Mr Opoku Fosuhene were elected treasurer and trustee respectively.

Swearing in the new executive for a four-year term of office, Mr Augustine Mensah, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GNAT, told the new officers to work without fear or favour.

Mr Hayford Frimpong, the out-going chairman of the association, expressed the hope the new executive would work harder to move the association forward to improve the social and academic status of teachers in the district.

Mr Addae-Poku called for continuous co-operation and support from members to sustain the image of the association in the district.
