Kwabena Agyepong could be removed from office – Antoh

The General Secretary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) could be removed from office for unilaterally appointing Deputy Communication Officers for the party, and also asking the acting Communication Director, Perry Okudzeto, to proceed on his accumulated leave, a Steering Committee member of the party has said.

Describing Kwabena Agyapong’s action as “null and void,” National Committee Member of the party, F.F. Antoh said the former flagbearer-aspirant is not untouchable, and could be punished – possibly removed from office – for taking unilateral decisions.

Antoh says Agyapong must “withdraw” the letter by which he announced his new appointments, and also apologise to other members of the NPP’s leadership for sidelining them in the whole appointment process.

Party stalwarts including first vice-chairman Freddie Blay, party Elder Dr Amoako-Tuffuor, Northern Regional Chairman Daniel Bugri Naabu, former Communication Director Nana Akomea, among a raft of others, have all condemned the process and manner in which the appointments were made.

The Steering Committee has scheduled an emergency meeting over the development – which has sparked furore in the party – towards ironing out issues. Kwabena Agyapong has also scheduled a press conference for later this week, possibly Tuesday, to set the records straight.

Antoh told private FM station, Joy, Monday that Agyapong disregarded caution and advice from former President John Kufuor, an Elder of the party, and still went ahead to unilaterally effect his appointments.
