Kwabena Agyapong likely to contest NPP General Secretary post – Ephson

Editor-In-Chief of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper, Ben Epson, says the suspended General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyapong is likely to stage a comeback for his position.

The General Secretary position of the NPP is currently being occupied by John Boadu in an acting capacity.

According to Ephson, Agyapong despite being shortlisted for appointment in the Akufo-Addo led government would fight his way to contest the position when nominations are opened.

However, he is likely to face a stiff opposition from the immediate past General Secretary of the party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, aka Sir John and the National Organiser, John Boadu “who has acted as General Secretary for the past two years and brought the party to power.”

Agyapong’s comeback, according to Ephson, will be subject to the lifting of his suspension together with that of the National Chairman, Paul Afoko and the 2nd National Vice Chairman of the party, Sammy Crabbe.

Ephson, speaking in an interview with Kasapa 102.5 FM, Tuesday, said available information to him suggests that the suspension of the trio (Kwabena Agyapong, Paul Afoko and Sammy Crabbe) will be lifted before nominations are opened.

However, he said Agyapong’s chances are very slim compared to John Boadu.

“I am sure with all the three giving their weaknesses and strengths, the delegates will give it to John Boadu who has acted in that capacity and won power for the party. He has worked hard for it so why not?” he noted.

With Sir John, he said it will be in his own interest to “be where he is because we don’t change a winning team.”
