Breman Kuntanase (C/R), Dec 30, GNA – The Breman Kuntanase Youth Club have called on the kingmakers of the area to resolve the long-standing chieftaincy dispute amicably to promote socio-economic development.
Mr Bright Odoom, President of the Club, speaking at the first anniversary of the Club at Kuntanase said the dispute had divided the area and impeded the development of the town and asked them to find a lasting solution.
He pointed out that the aim of the Club were to unite the citizens resident both outside the town and at home to ensure the development of the town and said the Chiefs and elders should support the laudable idea.
Mr Odoom said the Club had decided to institute an award scheme for the best Primary and Junior Secondary School pupils annually to inspire school children to take their studies seriously.
The award recipients would also be given a cash prize of 100,000 cedis, 20 exercise books and a mathematical set each every term. He said the best teachers in the two categories would also be given 300,000 cedis, a standing fan and other items each to encourage them to work harder to enable the pupils to attain better grades gain admission to secondary and tertiary institutions.
Members of the Club presented three street bulbs and two ceiling fans worth 2 million cedis to be installed at the palace.
Mr Odoom said the Club was helping the community to rehabilitate a collapsed footbridge linking the Methodist Primary School to the main Kuntanase-Asikuma road to ensure the safety of the school children. It would also construct a 15 million-cedi library as part of the Club’s efforts to promote education and help inculcate the habit of reading in pupils and students.
Miss Jessica Anyanful, Deputy General Secretary of the Club, advised parents to take their children’s education especially that of the girl-child seriously.
She expressed concern about the spate of teenage pregnancies and school dropouts among girls in the town and urged parents to show more concern about the activities of their children especially their daughters.
Miss Anyanful quoted the late Dr Kwegir Aggrey saying, “When you educate a man you have educated an individual but when you educate a woman you have educated a nation”.
She noted that boys in the town had attained higher education levels while girls lag behind.
Nana Kwesi Odum Essilfi III, Chief of the town, commended the youth for coming together for the development of the area and assured them of support.
He called on citizens resident outside the town to form similar clubs to promote unity and development.
