Kuntanase Government Hospital pleads for doctor, ambulance

Kuntanase (Ash), July 21, GNA – Mr David Asiby, Medical Assistant at the Kuntanase Government Hospital in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District has appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to provide the facility with a medical doctor and an ambulance.

He said it was unfortunate that there was not even an ambulance for the District which hosts the Lake Bosomtwe one of the nation’s most prominent tourist centres.

The District, he said experienced a lot of road accidents, due to the influx of revellers including tourists who patronise the tourist site especially on holidays.

Mr Asiby made the appeal during a mid-year health review meeting at Kuntanase on Friday.

He maintained that a medical doctor and an ambulance would tremendously improve emergency care for accident victims to save lives. While the ambulance would help transport victims from accident scenes promptly to hospitals or referral points, the 24-hour on call services of a medical officer would also go a long way to provide emergency services for the victims.

Dr (Mrs) Agatha Akua Bonney, District Director of Health Services, expressed regret that there were only eight community health nurses serving the 120 communities with a population of about 179,000. She said the situation has frustrated her outfit’s effort to achieve a 90 per cent immunisation target as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

“The woefully inadequate number of health staff has not only adversely affected the delivery of optimal health care but also put pressure on the staff and this can affect their health”, she noted.
