Kumbungu NDC activist seeks party unity

Mr Abdulai Zakaria Olivier, an activist of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has initiated a peace crusade aimed at uniting the rank and file of the party in the Kumbungu Constituency.

He said the party has lost many of its sympathizers in the constituency due to internal wranglings, which had resulted in the loss of the seat in the just ended by-elections in the constituency.

In an interview with the GNA in Tamale on Thursday, Mr Olivier said, “I have started speaking to the party’s to the problem using diverse methods, and I know that at the end of the day, the NDC will recapture the Kumbungu seat”.

Mr Olivier, who was a one-time contestant of the NDC Parliamentary primary in 2011, said his assessment at the grassroots level still places the party in the ahead of all other parties in the Constituency despite the parliamentary defeat.

He said one of the methods being used to seek peace for the party was the personal interaction with the party’s youth groups, elders and other opinion leaders so as to unite and help the party to retain power in 2016.

Mr Olivier, who is popularly called ‘Goozabli’ in the constituency, commended the Northern Regional executives of the party for their hard work, resilience and fortitude, in working to bring the party back to power in 2008, and retaining it in the 2012 elections.

He also commended the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Asiedu Nketia, for being bold, tactful and consistent during his evidence and cross examination at the Supreme Court where he defended the party in the ongoing election petition.

He urged the youths of the Northern Region to embrace peace and take education seriously to enable them find a better future for themselves saying “the chiefs in the region must be peace ambassadors to champion development”.
