Kumawu Royal Kills one person

and Critically Injures Six others

On Thursday, 3rd November 2011, a female staff of the Kumawu Rural Bank invited friends, well-wishers and her work colleagues to join her in celebrating her birthday at Kumawu. She celebrated the birthday at the residence of the late Akwasi Asamoah Amoakohene, the owner of the Accra Life Technical store. This residence houses the Kumawu Rural Bank. In the course of the celebration, the birthday celebrant decided to proceed to Kumawuhemaa’s house to greet and welcome her back home from her recent trip to Canada. She is friends with Kumawuhemaaa. Some of the invited guests followed her to the queen’s house to continue with the birthday anniversary. At around 11:30 pm, Kumawuhemaa asked them to leave, as it was very late into the night. Some of them decided to proceed to a new pub (Beer bar) that has opened near the late Opanyin Yaw Brenya’s house in the old Kumawu market area by the District Headquarters building to continue with the enjoyment.

The wife of Ronnie was among those that went to the Beer bar. Ronnie is the direct nephew of the late paramount chief of Kumawu, Barimah Asumadu Sakyi II, who passed in June 2007. Ronnie had had some altercation with the wife during the day. When he returned home to find the wife was absent, he inquired about her whereabouts. Someone told him the wife had gone to the pub and that she was dancing with some man. Ronnie was infuriated, jumped into his car and said, “I will kill some people today”. He drove at excessive speed with intention to drive straight into the bar to kill as many people as he could. In line with his intention, he killed one person (Kofi Dadzie also an Ankaase royal) and injured six others. Kofi was standing outside the pub chatting with people when Ronnie drove into them. He died on the spot when the car crashed into them. The police collected his body but left the severed thigh under the car until Friday 4th November 2011 when they retrieved it in broad daylight and in full view of the public. The police have deposited the body in Kumasi Central Hospital mortuary pending autopsy and further police investigation. The six wounded and critically ill are on admission to Effiduase hospital.

The queen and her Ankaase royals had a meeting on Friday, 4th November 2011to decide how to proceed about the incident. They should not brush the criminality involved under the carpet as Ronnie caused the accident with intent. Justice must be done to Kofi Dadzie and all the injured.

I want all the radio stations to phone up Kumawuhemaa and any of the Kumawu Ankaase royals for further details. Ronnie made a mockery of Esi Hene’s death in support of Kwabena Anane saying, “Kwabena Anane has killed him and so what?” Does he think people can kill and get away with it because they are royals? If you cannot do the time in prison, you do not have to commit the crime. Ronnie must face either murder or manslaughter charges.
