Kumasi Wesley Girls High School receives C20m gifts

Kumasi, Jan. 30, GNA – The Kumasi Diocesan Women’s Fellowship of the Methodist Church at the weekend presented assorted items valued at more than 20 million cedis to the Kumasi Wesley Girls High School, to strengthen its Home Economics Department.

These included a deep-freezer, table top fridge, electrical cooker, burners, sewing machines, sauce pans, washing bowls, chopping board, rolling pins and cutlery.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Right Reverend Nuh Ben Abubekr, the Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, said it was the vision of the Church to make the school a first class girls second cycle institution in the country. He said it was for this reason that the Church has taken it upon itself the challenge of building for it a three-storey dormitory block and adequately equipped the science laboratory and the library.

“It is my prayer that we could all one day point to this institution and proudly say, we played a part to make it what it is now,” he added.

Mrs. Elizabeth Duah, Diocesan President of the Fellowship, said as mothers, they have a sense of ownership of the school and would therefore, do all they could to assist improve facilities there. “We want a better future for our children and we know that this could only come about through their proper education,” she added. The Headmistress, Ms. Sabina Ama Grant, said they were grateful to the Methodist Church and its various organisations for the support for the school.

She said recently the Diocesan Susana Wesley and its Cathedral branch presented 100 bags of cement, sauce pans and cutlery to the school, while Christ Little Band donated 100 bags of cement.
