Kumasi to hold story writing workshop for pupils

A three-day workshop to introduce pupils in basic schools to the fundamentals of storytelling and writing, and how to utilise that to write their own stories will take place in Kumasi from August 8.

Dubbed: “I am an Author,” participants will stand the chance win 100 dollars in final day story writing competition.

The best stories will also be published in an e-book, which will be available on a US website. The workshop is open to pupils between the ages of 11 and 15, and it is being organised by the Girls Education Initiative of Ghana (GEIG) in partnership with US-based Butterfly Dreamz Inc.

“It is designed to develop students’ literacy and leadership skills while engaging them in a fun and creative way,” a statement issued by the organisers said.

Participants will at the end be awarded certificate. Parents, schools and relatives can register their pupils to participate in the workshop by filling an application form GEIG website.

The Girls Education Initiative of Ghana provides academic and financial support for girls, including people with special needs so they can access higher education and professional opportunities.

It has for the past year supported 12 students in the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions through the help of local and international institutions.

Each year, GEIG introduces an activity that enhances the academic, mentoring, and professional development of the beneficiaries. Last year, it partnered with Lancaster University Ghana and offered presentation skills and theater works for the girls.

It’s partner for this year’s workshop, Butterfly Dreamz Inc. is a nonprofit organization that uses the art of storytelling to build literacy and leadership skills in youth and supports students in writing and sharing their stories and create opportunities for them to learn from the stories of community leaders.
