Kumasi records huge immunisation coverage

Kumasi, Dec 30, GNA – Some 332,369 children under five years were immunised against poliomyelitis under the second phase of the National Immunisation Day (NID) exercise held in the Kumasi metropolis between November 17 to 21.

Dr Joseph Oduro, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Health Services, made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Wednesday.

Dr Oduro attributed the success of the exercise to the adequate publicity given to the programme and the positive response of mothers towards the exercise.

He commended the volunteers, health personnel for their hard work and the support of the Ashanti Regional Directorate of Health Services. Dr Oduro said inadequate allowances given to the health personnel and volunteers was among the problem encountered during the exercise and appealed to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to support with funds subsequent polio immunisation exercises. 30 Dec 04
