Kumasi police kills two suspected armed robbers

Kumasi, March 17, GNA – A combined police-military patrol team in Kumasi, on Thursday night killed two suspected armed robbers in a shoot out in a house near Treasure Land Hotel at Ayigya.

The five robbers engaged the patrol team in exchange of fire when the team arrived at the scene upon a tip-off.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Friday, ACP Frank Adu Poku, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said the team had a distressed call from someone in the area that armed robbers were attacking a house near the hotel.

He said when the team reached the scene they saw the robbers who had almost completed their operations and eating some of the stolen foods in a corner of the house.

ACP Adu Poku said immediately the robbers saw the team they began to shoot at all directions, the team shot at them and in the process two of the robbers were killed while the rest managed to escape. The Ashanti Regional Commander said the team retrieved two locally manufactured pistols, 12 live cartridges, a bag and 800,000 cedis cash from the robbers.

He said the police were more prepared to face the criminals to ensure their activities were brought to a halt, adding; “The police would do everything to stem armed robbery within the metropolis.”
