Kumasi metro mass transport operation starts this month

Metro Mass Transport System, which has already taken off in Accra, is scheduled to begin in full-scale in Kumasi by the third week of February.

A press release from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA) Public Relations directorate said a planning committee to oversee its smooth implementation had been formed.

The committee is made up of representatives from the Department of Urban Roads, Town and Country Planning, Omnibus Services Authority, Engineers and Administration Department of the KMA and Freko FD Limited, managers of the Kejetia Terminal.

The release said the committee was working on the selection of routes, identification of start, stop and end points for the shuttle bus services.

In addition, it was conducting an inventory to identify physical works to be done on selected routes to enhance the operations of the mass transport.

The committee, the release said, after preliminary surveys, has made selection of some routes to benefit from the bus service.

Among these are Kejetia-Kwadaso-Abuakwa, Kejetia-Santasi-Kotwi, Kejetia-Tafo-Ahwiaa, Kejetia-Breman-Kronom, Kejetia-Agric-Nzema and Kejetia-Bohyen-Asuofua.

The others are Asafo-Market-Tech-Ejisu, Asafo-Market-Atonsu-Chirapatre, Doctor Mensah-Buokrom Estate, Doctor Mensah-Aboabo-Asokore-Mampong and Prisons-Daaban-Sokoban.

A shuttle service had also been planned to go round the only ring road in the metropolis beginning from Anloga-Junction through Airport Roundabout-Krofrom-Abrepo Junction-Sofoline-Santasi Roundabout-Ahodwo Roundabout-Timber Gardens-Asokwa-Stadium
