Kumasi: 300 structures pulled down in Ashtown

Close to 300 mostly wooden shops, stalls and kiosks on a government property have been pulled down by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly at Ashtown near the K.O. Methodist Church in the Ashanti regional capital.

Several hundred Traders have been displaced as a result of the dawn operation.

The squatters claim they were not given any notice of the demolition.

One of the affected traders, Owusu-Ansah, told XYZ News all the affected traders are befuddled by the demolition because the property is in contention at the Court.

He said they were, therefore, taken by surprise when Soldiers and Police Officer stormed the area at dawn to bulldoze down all their structures.
