Kufuor’s comment on new constituencies misplaced – FGJ

The Convener of The Forum for Governance and Justice (FGJ), Dr. Clement Apaak has condemned former President Kufour for questioning the creation of 45 new constituencies by the Electoral Commission.

President Kufuor at NPP’s campaign launch on Saturday described as unwise the decision by the EC to create the constituencies.

He cautioned the EC not to go ahead with the creation saying it could lead to violence during the December polls.

Speaking to XYZ News, Dr. Apaak said President Kufuor’s comments are misplaced.

“I disagree because once the districts have been created you will have situations where there is one Member of Parliament struggling between two districts and that actually has a much more higher potential of causing chaos than the Electoral Commission going ahead to create the constituencies” Mr. Apaak said.

He added that “I think that he may be coming into this issue with a partisan interest in mind because you look at the commentary from his party in particular and consider the fact that Ayikoi Otoo is also court challenging the EC then nobody should be surprised”.
