Kufuor thanks chiefs and people of Cape Coast

Accra, Feb. 9, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of Cape Coast for successfully hosting the Fifth People’s Assembly, the first time the event was held outside the national capital, Accra.

President Kufuor was delighted that questions that were asked cut across the entire social spectrum, Mr Kwabena Agyepong, Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson, said at a Castle press briefing on Thursday.

This, he said, should send strong signals to Government appointees to be more open and receptive to the people. He called on all to support the People’s Assembly, a brainchild of President Kufuor, to bring the Presidency closer to the doorsteps of the citizens, to become a national event.

Mr Agyepong touched on the upcoming 49th Independence Anniversary and said it was going to herald the start of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the country’s independence.

It was therefore important for schools to begin to teach civic lessons to inculcate in pupils and students the “attitude of being true Ghanaian”, he said.

The Press Secretary also answered questions ranging from the furore over the Representation of People (Amendment) Bill (ROPA), the President’s development vision, rationale for the nomination of two Appeal Court judges to the Supreme Court by President Kufuor to speculations on a cabinet reshuffle. He said he could not speak on the rumour about imminent ministerial changes, adding that it was the prerogative of the President. 09 Feb. 06
