Kufuor signs Domestic Violence Act into law

Accra, May 3, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday signed the Domestic Violence Act into law.

It took less than one hour for the President to give his accent to the Act when the document reached his Office.

Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs who witnessed the signing at the Castle, Osu, said Ghanaian women would forever remain grateful to the Government for the law. The Act, which was passed on February 21, 2007 was first forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department for the necessary corrections and amendments and sent back to Parliament.

The Minister dismissed public speculations that the President was delaying in appending his signature.

Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, Foreign Minister and Mrs Oboshi Sai Coffie, Deputy Minister of Information and National Orientation, were among those present at the ceremony.
