Kufuor sends message of condolence to the Vatican

Accra, April 3, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Sunday sent a message of condolence to the Vatican and to all Catholics on the death of Pope John Paul 11.

The message said ”we have learnt with deep sorrow the news of the demise of the Holy Father, Pope John Paul 11. Ghanaians will remember with fondness the Pope’s momentous visit to this country in 1980 when his charisma and affability were very evident.”

The President recalled in the message his visit to the Vatican three years ago, the audience the late Pontiff granted him and his wife and said he radiated genuine concern for the well being of Ghana.

”Even though the Holy Father is no longer with us, we recognise his moral influence in the world as a strong advocate for peace, equality of all races and religions and reconciliation between foes torn apart by conflict. In essence, he was a peacemaker and an outstanding leader,” the message said.
