Kufuor returns home

Accra, March 27, GNA – Former President John Agyekum Kufuor arrived back home on Thursday night from Geneva, Switzerland, after attending the maiden 3C conference, at the invitation of the Swiss government, where he delivered the keynote address.

The 3C is a forum that seeks a “coherent, coordinated and complementary” approach in security, diplomacy, aid and finance in situations of conflict and fragility.

A statement signed by Mr. Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson, Office of the Former President, said Mr. Kufuor in his speech identified difficulties in coordination among various development agencies which worked against the optimum realization of their goals in areas of conflict and fragility.

To help resolve this, the Former President called for the establishment of “an expert centre for study and strategy”, preferably within the UN, to assist troubled countries on individual basis.

The statement said Mr Kufuor was invited by the former President of Finland and the 2008 Nobel Prize Winner for Peace, Martti Ahtisaari to join the Governing Council of Interpeace, an international non-governmental organization (NGO), that works in partnership with the United Nations in “divided and conflict societies” around the world. 27 March 09
