Kufuor: Pray for Supreme Court Justices

Former President John Agyekum Kufour has urged the nation to offer prayers for the Justices sitting on the election dispute before the Supreme Court.

He admonished Ghanaians to uphold the verdict of the court and ensure that peace prevails after the nine-member panel gives a ruling on the election petition filed against the legitimacy of President John Dramani Mahama by three leaders of the opposition New Patriotic Party.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the former President at a National Peace Summit themed: “Justice, Peace and Reform Will Strengthen Ghana”, his Spokesperson, Frank Agyekum said it is imperative for the nation to accept the verdict in good faith despite the party it favours.

He noted that “true peace emanates from true justice. Peace will prevail if justice is seen to be manifestly upheld. It is in this vein that I ask all concerned to pray for the justices of the Supreme Court to have the clarity of mind and vision to be bold and fearless in the discharge of their duties which destiny has called upon them to do. This will be the bedrock for the peace that will prevail after the ruling.”

President Kufuor also called on all political parties to educate their supporters on the outcome of the petition and drive into them the need to accept the court verdict “no matter how bitter it will be for them.”

He also advised the parties to desist from making any misguided remarks that may undermine the integrity of the court.

“I urge them to carry their numerous supporters along with them in the same vehicle in accepting the verdict of the court,” he said.
