Kufuor leaves for Abuja on Thursday

President John Agyekum Kufuor leaves Accra on Thursday, December 4, for Abuja, Nigeria to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled for December 5-8.
The theme for the biennial meeting that would bring together Heads of Government and representatives of 52 member countries would be: ” Development and Democracy-Partnership for Peace and Prosperity”.
A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday and signed by Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Press Secretary to the President and Presidential Spokesman, said the meeting would review global developments, especially international terrorism and the state of global economy with emphasis on the stalled WTO talks on international trade.
The statement said the meeting to be opened on Friday, December 5, by the Head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II, would also be addressed by host President Olusegun Obasanjo, out-going Chairman, Prime Minister John Howard of Australia and the Secretary-General, Mr Donald McKinnon.
It said there would also be the election of a new Secretary-General for the Commonwealth.
The statement said President Kufuor is expected back home on Monday, December 8.
