Kufuor: Good leaders don’t drop from the sky

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who turns 75 years today (Sunday), says good leadership doesn’t drop from the skies like a fruit falls from a tree.

“People don’t tend to see that leadership doesn’t drop from a tree like, say, a ripe fruit”, Kufuor told Charles Sam, Host of One Nation on Radio XYZ Friday.

“…You need to nurture it and so this is what the John Kufuor Foundation is trying to do”, he said.

The John A. Kufuor Foundation was established in August 2009 by the former President who served two terms from 2001 to 2009.

It is non-political and non-profit making and hinged on three inter-related pillars of leadership, governance and development.

According to the Foundation’s website, “Kufuor firmly believes that without good leadership, there will never be good governance and without good governance, it is impossible to have any sustainable development”.

Kufuor further drives home the point in his interview with Radio XYZ when he said his Foundation aims to “nurture good leadership that will then yield good governance and good governance we believe is the key to rounded development of our nations”.

He said: “I believe the success of the Foundation in realising these attributes or qualities or values within the community will be the enduring contribution of the foundation to the evolution of our societies”.

“…It’s the mission for us to follow. Get good leadership and then you’d see the positive results of our communities”

Kufuor is currently in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, relaxing and receiving visitors as he celebrates his 75th birthday.
