Kufuor donate drinks for the Ohumkan festival

Kyebi, July 14, GNA – Dr Francis Osafo-Mensah, Eastern Regional Minister, on Tuesday presented assorted drinks and a cash of two million cedis, on behalf of President John Agyekum Kufuor, to the Akim Abuakwa Traditional Council, in connection with the annual Ohumkan festival. The beverages include: three cartons of beer; two cartons of Guiness Stout; a carton of schnapps; three crates of minerals, two bottles Whisky and a bottle of gin.

The Abontendomhene of Kyebi, Osabarima Osei Kyeretwie Boakye Dankwa, who received the gift on behalf of the Council, at Kyebi, thanked the government for the kind gesture.

He urged the government to remain focused on the implementation of its development programmes.

The Ohumkan festival was instituted 350 years ago when a hunter of Osiem, near Akyem Tafo, discovered the mystery behind the celebration during a hunting expedition.

The festival is characterised by a two-week ban on noise making and funeral rites and the eating of “fufu”, a staple meal.
