Kufuor assures NPP Presidential aspirants of neutrality

Accra, Oct. 16, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has assured the Presidential aspirants of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of his continued neutrality and total support for whoever was chosen to lead the party to the 2008 polls.

The Presidency would not be put behind any particular candidate to give him unfair advantage, his Press Secretary, Mr Andrew Awuni, said in Accra on Tuesday.

He was sharing information with newsmen on the President’s family meeting with the aspirants held at the Castle, Osu, on Monday. The meeting was meant to discuss with them public response to issues arising out of their campaigns.

The NPP’s National Executive Officers and Party Elders including Mr Samuel Odoi-Sykes and Madam Ama Busia also attended. Mr Awuni said President Kufuor drew attention to the need to see the presidential race as an intra-party contest that must be devoid of acrimony.

It was important therefore to ensure circumspection to maintain the unity and cohesion of the party.

Mr Awuni said the meeting also discussed the processes leading to the party’s congress scheduled for December 22. He said the deliberations were frank and cordial.
