Residents of Kpoi-Ete in the Kpone-Katamanso District in the Greater Accra Region are now enjoying potable water following the completion of two water points in the community.
Kpoi-Ete, which is a community lying at the outskirts of Prampram and linked to Kpone by the Laaloi Lagoon, has over 500 inhabitants who are mainly farmers. The most pressing challenge for the community is lack of potable water due to the community’s unique coastal location that has made the underground water in the area is salty.
Residents hitherto drank untreated water from a rain-fed pond until the establishment of the two water points by the Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly (KKDA). Alhaji Antiaye Tetteh, Kpone-Katamanso District Chief Executive, said the provision of the water points was part of efforts to make potable water available to the people.
Alhaji Tetteh said the facility is made up of “a two-number polytank put on platforms constructed at vantage points in the community” and that tanker services had been arranged for the tanks to be filled regularly.
He said an agreement had been made with the community to sell the water at subsidized rates to the residents and the proceeds used as revolving capital to arrange for constant water supply.
Alhaji Tetteh said it was the hope of the Assembly that the community would manage the facility efficiently.
