Kpalime-Kaira, (V/R), Dec 5. GNA – The Kpalime Traditional Area in the South-Dayi District of the Volta Region would enjoy good road network and potable water by 2011.
The rough road from Kpalime-Todome through to Toh-Kpalime linking the Dzemeni Market would be transformed as part of government’s programme to tackle the Eastern Corridor road network in 2011. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, gave the assurance at a durbar of chiefs and people of Kpalime Traditional Area to climax their Kpalikpakpa Festival on Saturday. It was on the theme; “Pre-school Education, Key to Ultimate Useful Education.”
Mr Amenowode said tackling that road formed part of the government’s plan to link all such economically important artery roads to the major highways it planned to construct throughout the country. He advised communities to maintain constant and personal contacts with government officials to know which plans government had for them as it would be embarrassing to resort to the media to remind government officials of promises they might have made. Mr Amenowode urged youths in the area to pursue farming and other forms of agriculture because the government was committed to making the sector lucrative. He advised the people to elect competent personalities to represent them in the District Assembly during the District Assembly Election this month to help realise their expectations of development. Mr Amenowode advised communities in the region to plan their festivals such that they did not clash with others so that government officials could participate fully in them.
He therefore appealed to the chiefs and people of Kpalime and Peki Traditional Areas to reach an agreement on fixing the celebration of the Kpalikpakpa za and Gbidukor za festivals which coincided every year. Mr Edem Asimah, Member of Parliament for South-Dayi, said the perennial water problem in the Kpalime Traditional Area would be solved by 2011 when pipe-borne water would be extended to communities in the area. He said he would use his share of the MPs fund to support the construction of a kindergarten for Kaira. The chiefs and people pledged their support and co-operation to government due to indications of government interest in the development of the area. 5 Dec. 10
