Kotoka Airport to be closed down

The Ghana Meteorological Agency says it is being compelled to carry out its earlier threat to close down the Kotoka International Airport.

In March this year, the GMA threatened to secure a court order to close down the airport due to non-payment of debts.

XYZ Business has learnt that the debt of the Airport Company to the meteorological services has since exceeded 2 million Dollars.

Captain Retired Stephen Komla, the Director-General of the Ghana Meteorological Agency, in an interview with XYZ News, said the Airport Company has failed to reply to any of their demands.

“We have not had any feedback from the Airport Company…you write they don’t reply, there is simply no correspondence and negotiations between us.

“It is very possible that we would end up in Court” Captain Retired Stephen Komla said.

Captain Stephen Komla also disclosed that the Communications Ministry is amending the GMA Act to avert such impasse.
