Kosmos Energy Ghana Limited is providing $325,000 emergency donation for critical equipment for three Ebola treatment centres located at Tema, Kumasi and Tamale.
As part of the arrangement, Kosmos is to procure and provide generators, incinerators and other needed supplies for the soon-to-be completed facilities.
Mr Ken Keag, Vice President, Country Manager of Kosmos Energy Ghana announced this when he conferred with Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur at the Flagstaff House on ways the company can assist Ghana in providing critical equipment for the three disease treatment centres.
Currently, three countries in the West African sub-region, namely Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea have been ravaged by the Ebola pandemic with over 4,500 deaths.
Mr Keag stated that Ghana is already playing a key role, acting as a hub to support sister countries in the sub-region.
He said after extensive discussion with the Ministry of Health, he was assured of concerted effort and preparation being made to contain the disease should the country report a positive case.
He said although Ghana has not yet had a confirmed case of Ebola, it is important for the nation to be prepared.
Mr Keag also noted that the donation of the critical equipment and supplies comes after extensive discussion with the Ministry of Health to understand Ghana’s needs and level of preparedness.
He said Kosmos as long term partner to Ghana was eager to do its part to support the country’s readiness.
Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur in his response commended Kosmos Energy for their kind gesture and appreciated the support the company was providing to the country to contain the Ebola disease if it is detected in Ghana.
He said from all indications, the country has to do a bit more of public education so that the people can prepare themselves and protect themselves better.
He advised people to reduce person to person contact to avoid contracting the disease
Vice President Amissah-Arthur also stated that the country needed to raise the level of awareness of the transmission in order to be able to contain the Ebola disease.
